Copper Harbor Lighthouse
On our final day in Copper Harbor, we headed over to the Copper Harbor Lighthouse! We tried to go the night before for the sunset tour, but realized it didn't start until July. We missed it by two days, unfortunately! I felt much more prepared the night before too, and I always love golden hour photos, so I was slightly disappointed about missing that. So today you'll just have to live with my unwashed hair, and my insanely windblown dress.
We purchased tickets from the Copper Harbor Marina though, and hopped on a boat to head out to the lighthouse. Copper Harbor Light is another lighthouse you cannot reach by land, since it's surrounded by private property. The boat ride is very easy though (only 15 minutes each way), and fun because it's similar to a boat ride you'd take in the early 20th century. The boat is identical to the early wooden boats of the U.S. Lighthouse Service, which tended to the needs of the lightkeepers back then. I'd definitely recommend the trip if you're in the area!
We explored the original 1848 lightkeeper's dwelling which is the "oldest" remaining lighthouse structure on Lake Superior! The dwelling serviced a separate stone light tower, which no longer exists. The tower didn't survive the brutal weather conditions of this area, and had to be replaced in 1866. The current Copper Harbor Lighthouse is no longer operational, but is beautifully restored as a museum, where you can walk through each of the rooms and read up on some of the history of the lights. In 1933, the light was removed from the lighthouse, and placed on the 62-foot tall white skeleton tower, which is still active today.
This ModCloth dress is one of my favorite dresses this summer. It's just so easy to style. I've been wearing it on repeat. I wore it last spring, paired with an olive green jacket and tawny accessories. I wanted to try and go a little more nautical this time, pairing it with some bright red flats and my beloved Madewell tote. Unfortunately this exact dress is sold out, but this one is similar. I also love this one and this one.
