Scottsdale neighborhood

Even though it officially feels like autumn here in Michigan, I’m still loving on the desert for a couple more days while I wrap up my posts from our trip to Phoenix! We stayed in Scottsdale, in a super cool neighborhood. Our Airbnb was amazing and modern, and I loved being able to relax on this trip with our family! This trip was a little different than our normal trips where we go, go, go to see everything we can… and it was fun for a change to sit back, relax, and drink wine by the pool! On this day, Eric and I decided to venture out to do a little shopping, so we snapped some photos on the street of the neighborhood we stayed in before our Uber picked us up!

Hole in the Rock

We’re onto some posts from… the desert! If you didn’t know, Eric and I took a long weekend trip with my family to Arizona. It was my first time visiting the area (except for a small work trip once), so I was really excited! It was a fun weekend, with a good mix of relaxing and heading out to explore. Eric and I were able to meet up with my good friend, Chelsea of Chelsea Bird, and her husband, Scott, and they showed us around Phoenix for a little bit! I was so happy to get the chance to hang out with them, and to explore the desert! It was my first time seeing cactus (growing out of the ground 😂) and that was one of my favorite things! I loved the vibes and landscape of Arizona. So much different than Michigan — nature and weather-wise — and I loved the opportunity to experience something totally new!

Mother Stewart's Brewing

Onto my last post from Springfield, Ohio! Excuse the wrinkles, but this was at the very tail end of our trip after two action-packed days. (I also forgot our steamer.) But! I just had to blog these photos, because the brewery was so cool... and Eric's outfit was cooler than mine! But on our last night in town, we headed over to Mother Stewart's Brewing. It was awesome! I loved it. The vibe was really cool, they had a great selection of beers (and lots of options for non-beer drinkers!). I went for a rosé sangria on ice that was delicious. We enjoyed drinks outside in the outdoor beer garden and enjoyed watching all of the fireflies. So many fireflies on this trip!

Yellow Springs, Ohio

On the itinerary for our trip to Springfield, Ohio... was an afternoon in Yellow Springs! I was excited to explore this little town. It's known as a funky, artsy town with eclectic boutiques and shops, just 10 minutes outside Springfield. Plus, we heard of a great walk at Glen Helen Nature Preserve, full of springs and waterfalls, which I knew we had to do! It was the perfect afternoon for it too. I loved exploring, grabbing a bite to eat and taking in the sights of this quaint town! Have you ever been to Yellow Springs before? (This is also apparently where Dave Chappelle and his family live... so we were keeping an eye out, but didn't spot him!)

Exploring Springfield, Ohio

On our first full day in Springfield, Ohio... we spent the morning exploring their downtown! Thankfully the weather was beautiful and sunny, and we were able to walk almost everywhere! I loved how walkable this area was. It's always a great way to take in a new city and get a little fresh air! Plus, it's fun to find different things that weren't necessarily on your itinerary. Do you guys make itineraries when you travel? When we're heading to new places, I love making itineraries. Planning for a trip is almost as fun as taking it sometimes! Other times, it's nice to just relax and let the day take you where it may. We stopped to all of the places we wanted to visit, but we also found a few surprises along the way!

Hartman Rock Garden

We're back from a fun and exciting trip to... Springfield, Ohio! I love small-town adventures, quirky tourist traps and exploring new places, so this trip was right up my alley. It's a relatively easy drive from Michigan (about 5 hours), and there are lots of unique things to do to spend a weekend there! I'll be blogging about our trip all week... and first up, we have the Hartman Rock Garden. It's one of the nation's most revered works of in situ folk art, an outsider art phenomena where self-taught artists construct worlds out of concrete, metal, stone, and whatever else they can find. It was interesting to explore and see how much detail went into this garden!
