YELLOW DOG RIVER BRIDGE
It was the perfect autumn evening for a drive out to Big Bay, with the colors popping off in full forceโฆ finally! ๐ I headed to Yellow Dog River Bridge to soak in the golden hour light and the autumnal views. I love cruising the back roads at dusk, easily one of my favorite ways to spend a fall weeknight. Thereโs nothing quite like autumn in the U.P.!
half day in ontonagon
One of my favorite places to visit in autumn is the Porcupine Mountains! Youโll find tons of fall color, a historic lighthouse, a fun dive bar, and conversation with the local Yoopers! Itโs about a 2.5 hour drive from Marquette, but plan to spend more time driving once youโre in the Porkies. Read on for my full (half) day in Ontonagon!
big bay getaway
A perfect fall day in Big Bay: breakfast at Hungry Hollow Cafe, visit the Big Bay Lighthouse, explore Burns Landing, dinner at Thunder Bay Inn (where Anatomy of a Murder was filmed), hike to Thomas Rock for fall colors, see Yellow Dog Falls, and end with a drink at Lumberjack Tavern, the film's crime scene. Read on for a Big Bay Getaway!
Took a Friday night walk up Thomas Rock to soak in the last bits of fall color and got treated to a beautiful blush-pink sunset. Even with the leaves past peak, it was all kinds of moody and pretty. Layered up in my favorite flannel and hoodie combo, Carhartt beanie, and new Leviโs for a laid-back night in nature. Octoberโs wrapping up fastโsavoring these crisp evenings before the slower November vibes kick in!
