Sleeping Bear Dunes
We stopped in a little town called Empire, Michigan to check out Sleeping Bear Dunes! We only live a couple of hours away, but surprisingly I've never been before! It reminded me a lot of the Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore... but instead there are dunes instead of rock formations! The dunes go on for about 35 miles! It's truly an amazing sight to see.
After checking into the motel in the tiny town, we headed on our way to the lakeshore. We spotted a sign for "Scenic Drive", so we veered off and bought a pass to go through. It was unlike anything I've done before! It was a drive dedicated to being a sight-seeing tour only and you could navigate and read about your stops. We stopped at almost every stop! There were overpasses, forests, lakes, dune formations and ancient glacial phenomena!
When we finally got to the Lake Michigan scenic stop... we climbed up the hill and couldn't believe what we saw. It was the most beautiful (yet insane!) view I've ever seen of Lake Michigan! You can't tell from this photo so much, but I mean... the lake is about 500 feet below us at this point and you could run down this hill! So insane. It takes over an hour to get back up.
I went for my Megan Nielsen Far Horizon shorts which I modeled for her SS 2011 line! They were so comfortable for climbing around the dunes. Shorts were definitely my go-to clothing item for our trip up north! Paired with a loose blouse, the lake wind felt perfect! We called it an early night after a full day of sight-seeing. It feels so good to retire to your hotel room early and just relax!
