Winter wonderland

Woohoo! We're on the last week of January! It's not that I don't like this month, but I will definitely say it's one of my least favorite months of the year. I love January for the "fresh start". It's a new year, and you have a chance to start over. I don't like this month for the insanely cold temperatures, the major snow we've had here in Michigan and how long it feels. I'm so proud of my first month of 2014 though. I don't want to toot my own horn or anything, but since this is my own blog… I'm just going to toot it. I'm truly feeling on top of my game lately! I know I'm not blogging as much, but I feel like I'm putting myself in a really great position to start blogging a lot more in spring. I'm excited for it!

While yes, most days I'm pretty scrubby wearing jeans, a flannel and a giant cardigan… I'm doing great on other goals. I've had a lot of "firsts" lately too, which is so inspiring! I ran 4 miles on Sunday for the first time in my life! I've never ran that far before! I did a 5K about four years ago, and that was it. I'm so absolutely thrilled and truly feel like I can crush this 10K in spring now. I also trimmed my nails for the first time ever! I know that sounds really weird. But for being a nail-biter, that's huge. They were so long! Annoying long, to be honest. And I trimmed them - didn't bite. Yay!

I think I accomplished every goal I set for January, which excites me like no other! I ramped up my February goal list and I'm so excited to get started. I make a goal list every month, and for every birthday. I'm still working on my 27 by 28 list… I think I made too many "big" goals for that one and it'll be tough. But I'm getting there. Most of it is financial, like pay off all of my credit cards (that's tough after the holidays!), to get a new couch and love seat, new tires for my car, and to increase my student loan payments monthly to pay them off in 10 years. You know, boring stuff nobody wants to spend their money on. ;)

I've been cooking a lot lately! I'm trying to cook my way through a healthy recipe book I have. So far I've made Zesty Chicken Noodle Casserole (yum), Oven-Baked Onion Rings (yum), Parmesan-Chive Potato Chips (yum), Cheddar-Stuffed Burgers (meh), Monterey Jack Turkey Burgers (yum), Spinach and Cheese Quiche (yuck), Classic French Toast (yum) and Pasta with Goat Cheese and Broccoli (huuuuge fail!). But for being a non-cooking gal, I'm feeling awesome about my progress! My mom would be proud.
