Day in Detroit
This weekend, I headed to Detroit to explore for the day. Although I've lived in Michigan my entire life, I really haven't gotten to know the east side of the state very well. To be totally honest, it wasn't my favorite Michigan experience. I know, I know, [insert the boo + hiss here] but I'm definitely a west side gal. I live for the lakeshore. But I super appreciate the character and potential the city has, it's just so different from where I grew up. It feels like two different states entirely! I explored a lighthouse depot, downtown a bit, an amazing abandoned theater, and the Windmill Point Lighthouse. One more lighthouse checked off the ol' list. The lighthouse was pretty destroyed, in a really bad area. The history behind this lighthouse is neat though. This is actually the third lighthouse to be built here, and it is now the only remaining historic structure on this piece of land, now known as Mariner's Park. After lighthouse exploring, I ate at American Coney Island and walked around for a bit. I'll be back more this week with photos from the theater and the lighthouse depot!
