José Babushka's

On Friday night, Eric and I headed out for a date night! We've been so busy this summer with trips, wedding plans, and obligations, so it was perfect to just spend a night alone out on the town. We decided to try José Babushka's, which has been on my "wishlist" of places to visit as soon as I found out it existed a couple of months ago! It's located in the heart of Gaslight Village in East Grand Rapids, and kind of a hidden gem, if you ask me. They have an extremely wonderful mix of my two favorite types of foods – Mexican and Polish. My grandma was Polish, so I grew up eating stuffed cabbage, pierogies and kielbasa. It brought back good memories just to see it on the menu!

Eric and I both ordered specialty cocktails. He went for a whiskey lemonade, and I went for a (neon blue!) margarita, with salt on the rim, of course. We decided to share, because I wanted a bit of both 'worlds', so we got the BBQ pork tacos and the Polski Talerz (their Polish plate with kielbasa simmered in beer and charbroiled, José’s original sauerkraut, Golabki (stuffed cabbage) potato and cheese pierogi, and red skin potatoes). So so good! I'd highly recommend checking this place out. They also have an outdoor patio, which I'd love to try and sit at next time we go.

After having dinner, we decided to go downtown to Pyramid Scheme to play pinball. Surprisingly enough, having been there a million times, I've never played pinball there before! We wasted about $15 in quarters, and had so much fun playing games for an hour or so! After that, we just went home and watched Netflix in bed. Pretty much, my perfect date night. The rest of the weekend was spent getting ready for my bachelorette party! We're going 'camping' in rustic cabins and I couldn't be more excited. We have plans to visit a lighthouse, have a pool party, eat at an old fashioned diner, go tubing down a river, and watch wedding chick flicks in the cabin... it's going to be so fun!
