30-Item Challenge
So as many of you already know, I decided to try a simplified wardrobe for a while. I was really inspired when I saw a post by Indiana of Mom Jeans and Dad Jokes, doing the same thing called “thoughtful closet”, which is 30 items for 3 months. Kendi of Kendi Everyday also used to do something similar by creating 30 outfits from 30 items. My goal is to do a month of wearing only these 30 items, and then incorporate one piece from my {old} wardrobe weekly after that.
My reason to start this was because… I hated my closet. I’d wake up in the morning, try to push through the things in there, realized I didn’t like anything, and would grab the same green sweater or black tee and a cardigan. My outfits at work were just so blah, you could tell I threw something together in five minutes, I wore jeans every day, and I was just feeling so uninspired. I also feel like the biggest reason I decided to start a blog was to define my personal style, and I feel like for the past five years, it’s gotten off track somehow. I look back at the beginning stages of my blog and realized, I liked all of those outfits (still!). But lately, I realized I don’t really know my sense of style anymore, and that makes me sad.
First, I looked at my “style inspiration” board on Pinterest to gain inspiration for what I liked and what I was constantly pinning. I looked back at some of my past outfits and pulled my favorites, and I started to notice patterns. I love neutrals. I love black, white, beige, brown, gray, with some seasonal darker colors like burgundy, hunter greek and navy. So I decided to push my wardrobe in that way. My goal is to have more of a classic style, put-together, intentional, and simplified.
I started making a list of things I saw in outfits that I loved. Simple things like skinny jeans, a black blazer, simple black flats, tan ankle boots, etc. I gathered anything out of my closet that I could, and ordered three new things (essentials!) to complete my 30-item wardrobe. I’m a week and a half into it now, and honestly, I love it so far! Who knows how I’ll be feeling later… but so far, it’s so much easier to plan outfits, and my style is already feeling better and more “me”.
I’m excited to complete a month and see how I feel… and eventually start to work a few items back in that are very much thought-out. I’m over ill-fitting clothes that aren’t my style that just sit in my closet and take up space. A few things I already miss and will work back in right away… my moccasins, and some knee-height boots (need better, more quality ones). Unfortunately with my schedule (and how dark it gets so early), I won’t be able to blog all 30 outfits, but I’ll blog as many as I can! And post on Instagram as well too. I’ll give a recap in a month too. If you’re feeling inspired to start a challenge too, and have any questions, just let me know! xo
