15 Year Blogiversary
A classic “outfit post” coming right at ya… in celebration of my 15th blogiversary! I played a little homage here to that first outfit post and threw on some gray (although my style is a bit different these days!) and found a railroad track here in Marquette. But on September 3, 2009, I took my very first “outfit shots” on the railroad tracks right next to my apartment in Grand Haven. I started my blog back then… because I had just lost enough weight to revamp my wardrobe, was getting more into fashion than I ever had, buying fashion magazines, and I remember doing some Google searches only to find an article on four fashion bloggers, and I was like… oh my gosh, I want to try that! I had no idea what I was doing, how it would shape and influence my life, but it was a fun, creative thing I wanted to do just for myself, to develop a sense of personal style, without thinking it’d take me anywhere. And it took me… in so many directions I never thought possible. I’m just so incredibly grateful.
This is always the time of year I’m interested in diving back into blogging… but it’s definitely taken a back seat in my life lately. I think I’ll always love it, always maintain this space to come back to, enjoy it when I can, but without the pressure of getting x amount of posts in, etc. But this space has really helped me in so many ways from… developing a strong independence, giving me a creative outlet that I can do by myself while also engaging with other people, and just… a fun way to spend time honestly. It’s also gotten me to continue learning, staying up-to-date on social media and technology, and has given me so many incredible memories, friends, experiences that I wouldn’t have had otherwise! Thank you to all of you for sticking around for as long as you have… or if you’re new around here! 15 years. Holy moly.
15 years ago, I started Selective Potential. I was 23 years old, living in Grand Haven, in my junior year of Kendall College of Art & Design. Now I’m 38 years old, living in Marquette, 14 years into my career as a graphic designer at Williams Group. It’s wild where life will take us. Although some bumps in the road, I wouldn’t change a thing. I’ve really learned and grown a lot in the last 15 years and this space has been a huge contributor to that. Anyway! Sentimenty. That’s all. I’ll be posting more on Instagram & TikTok soon (just took a really wonderful trip to Mackinac Island)… so stay tuned there, and hoping to get back here a little bit this fall. This is always one of my favorite times of the year to take photos and blog and travel, that’s for sure! Ok. See you soon.
