Exploring Springfield, Ohio

On our first full day in Springfield, Ohio... we spent the morning exploring their downtown! Thankfully the weather was beautiful and sunny, and we were able to walk almost everywhere! I loved how walkable this area was. It's always a great way to take in a new city and get a little fresh air! Plus, it's fun to find different things that weren't necessarily on your itinerary. Do you guys make itineraries when you travel? When we're heading to new places, I love making itineraries. Planning for a trip is almost as fun as taking it sometimes! Other times, it's nice to just relax and let the day take you where it may. We stopped to all of the places we wanted to visit, but we also found a few surprises along the way!

Hartman Rock Garden

We're back from a fun and exciting trip to... Springfield, Ohio! I love small-town adventures, quirky tourist traps and exploring new places, so this trip was right up my alley. It's a relatively easy drive from Michigan (about 5 hours), and there are lots of unique things to do to spend a weekend there! I'll be blogging about our trip all week... and first up, we have the Hartman Rock Garden. It's one of the nation's most revered works of in situ folk art, an outsider art phenomena where self-taught artists construct worlds out of concrete, metal, stone, and whatever else they can find. It was interesting to explore and see how much detail went into this garden!

A few obsessions

Happy June! I can't believe I haven't posted on the blog yet this month. Time is going so quickly! I'm loving this month so far, but I definitely wish things would slow down a little bit. I knew this was going to happen, because we always overbook ourselves in the summer. On one hand, I wouldn't have it any other way. I love our travels, events, extra social time, and all of Eric's gigs. On the other hand, it makes time just fly right on by. I'm just trying to hang on for the ride and really enjoy summer! I'm just glad it's at the beginning, and I can try to be more intentional about slowing down.

Woven wildflowers

Hi friends! I hope you all had a great Memorial Day weekend. We spent ours up in Traverse City. Eric was playing shows at Kilkenny's Irish Pub both Friday and Saturday, so we decided to make a little weekend trip out of it! We stayed at a cottage in the middle of Traverse City State Forest (in the middle of nowhere!) but it was fun to sleep in bunk beds and spend time with friends! I had the worst seasonal allergies though over the weekend. I usually don't get them, but this year has been especially bad! So I had to power through that, but it was all good. We got in a little bit of wine tasting, food trucks at The Little Fleet, and strolling along Front Street. I didn't get many pictures, but we'll be back a couple of times this summer!

In the flowers

I'm so in love with all things blooming right now in Michigan! It opens up so many more photo opportunities. This spot is a place we drive by all the time and would never stop before... but now is a different story! These pink blooms are so pretty! We had a couple of chilly days last weekend, so I was able to bust out a favorite sweater from last winter before putting it away for the season. I love the fun, poofy sleeves! Now we're almost into full summer mode though... lots of sunshine and warm temperatures on the forecast!

The yearly tulips

Ahh... tulip season is here! It's my favorite time of spring. I absolutely love heading to Holland to see the fields in bloom. Eric and I have figured out that going on a weeknight is so much smarter to avoid the tourists, so we ended up going last Thursday as soon as we got out of work! We went to Veldheer Tulip Gardens this year. We've been going here the last few years, because they stay open until 7pm... where Windmill Island Garden closes at 6pm. Boo! So maybe next year we'll have to try going on a weekend and fighting the crowds to view the island... but this year, we're back at Veldheer!
