Day in Manistique

Our first afternoon during our trip to the Upper Peninsula was spent in Manistique! We first checked out the lighthouse in Gulliver, and then drove over to Manistique to explore the town a little bit. On the agenda? We checked out Mackinaw Trail Winery & Brewery, walked down the pier to the Manistique East Breakwater Lighthouse, had lunch/drinks at Tap21, and then drove out to Kitch-iti-Kipi to take the raft across the crystal blue waters! This was one of my favorite afternoons of the trip… I think just because it was fun to explore this area, and the trip was just beginning, so there’s so much hope and excitement in the air. 😂 I’d definitely recommend a day spent here! I’m bummed we missed the Fayette Historic State Park (aka; ghost town!) but I’d love to hit that up when we’re back up here someday!

Seul Choix Point Lighthouse

Wooooo! We’re onto posts from our trip to the upper peninsula… finally! Over Labor Day weekend, we took a long trip up to Escanaba, Michigan! I had never been before, and was really excited to explore a whole new part of the U.P. I hadn’t been to yet. We left Thursday night, hit up dinner in Petoskey, and then stayed overnight in Mackinaw City before venturing across the bridge on Friday morning. Our first full day… we checked out the Manisitique area, which is on the way to Escanaba! I had been there once before, but hadn’t seen any of the lighthouses yet, so that was a priority, of course. First up?! The Seul Choix Lighthouse in Gulliver! Pronounced Sis-shwa, the name means "only choice". It was named by the French who found it was the only harbor of refuge in this part of Lake Michigan. I was so excited to explore this one!

Bettinger Park

Onto my final post from Lakeside, Ohio! Phew! I’m way behind, haha, but going to try and catch up a bit this week. So during our last night in Lakeside, we had to stroll the dock one last time and we played a game of miniature golf at Bettinger Park! It’s only like $2 to play or something, and it’s such a fun thing to do! I feel like we rarely get out when we’re home to do something fun and simple like this, which is so silly. So I’m glad we did that; super fun. We also grabbed a last ice-cream cone at The Whistle Stop before heading back to our hotel for the night! Such a fun trip to Lakeside, Ohio. I’d love to go back again someday! Thank you to Lakeside for bringing me there, and for the experience and memories! I’ll always love this weekend and this little town!

Ohio's Most Beautiful Mile

On our second night in Lakeside Ohio, we decided to stroll along “Ohio’s Most Beautiful Mile” and grab dinner at Lago — two very recommended things to do in this adorable town! Since we had rented a golf cart for the day, we had a little time before we needed to return it. So we drove around town for a bit, enjoying the sights, and stopped to a little turnout so we could walk down this path along Lake Erie. It’s so pretty for a stroll — I’m not surprised of its name! The flowers and landscaping were absolutely gorgeous!

Lakeside Dock

A few more posts from Lakeside Chautauqua coming at ya! This one is sort of a cop out… because it’s my outfit from the very first night, but with a cardigan layered over it. 🤣 But I just loved these photos on Lakeside Dock and felt they justified another blog post… so here I am! But yeah, this dock in Lakeside was one of our favorite places to hang out during our weekend there. It was just so pretty. The sunsets (both nights) were insane! We walked out here at least 3-4x during our trip. I’d definitely recommend a visit just to grab dinner and watch a sunset here. I loved it!

10 years of Selective Potential

Today marks exactly 10 years that I took my very first outfit photos for Selective Potential. Ah! I cannot believe it’s been 10 years… but on the other hand, it feels like I’ve had this blog almost all of my adult life (which I have really!) I started Selective Potential when I was 23 years old, now I’m 33 years old! I started this blog back then because I had just lost a lot of weight and fell in love with fashion and personal style. I came across an article on Who What Wear about four fashion bloggers, felt so inspired, and immediately started my own. I first joined Chictopia, which was a huuuuuuge reason why my blog was so successful from the start. I was named a “style icon” within the first month I could qualify (which was a big deal back then!) and I started Selective Potential right in the middle of that whirlwind time. It’s been one of the best adventures of my entire life. I’m so grateful for the opportunities, friends and memories this blog has brought me over the years! It’s been a ride, that’s for sure.
