Why I Schoola
When I was growing up, my favorite subjects in school were always art and music. I was never an “exceptional” student, and thankfully I always looked forward to going to my art classes and excelled in them. It gave me hope! Especially as I struggled through math and science and felt like I’d never be able to grow up and have a ‘career’ because I wasn’t ‘smart’ in those subjects. But thankfully art classes in school led me to an amazing career in graphic design that I love and enjoy doing every single day. I think it’s so unfortunate that some schools are having to cut some of these programs.
That’s why I’m excited to be collaborating with Schoola today. In short, they are a hybrid of an e-commerce online thrift store and a fundraising platform that gives 40% of their proceeds to benefit schools. Win win, right? Their emphasis is on saving programs like art, music, field trips and physical education. Programs that may seem undervalued to some, but can make a huge impact on a child’s development… and can lead them to amazing careers! Not everybody is cut out to be a scientist, doctor, or accountant. I definitely wasn’t, and was so thankful to have had the opportunity to pursue art as a career.
With spring cleaning coming up, now is the perfect time to get involved with Schoola. With just a couple of clicks, they will send you a bag, postage-paid, to fill with kids’ and women’s clothing. It's free, easy, and they’ll take it from there! You can either choose the school you want to benefit, or you can have them suggest a school for you. I chose a local elementary school that I have pen pal at through my work. It's a low-income area, and I know the students would benefit from a little extra money toward those programs.
So either head on over and shop cute second hand clothes, or request a bag to donate clothes of your own! Whatever you decide to do, you’re going to help kids have better access to programs like art, music, and physical education. Plus! If you share on social media, they will be selecting a minimum of 5 winners who use the hashtag “#WhyISchoola and sending them $50 in Schoola credit! You can find more details on the contest here.
Thank you to Schoola for sponsoring this post.
