All the tulips
It’s that time of year again… visiting the tulip fields! This day was so magical, and so needed. I wasn’t sure if I was going to be able to go with everything going on, but when garden centers re-opened a couple of weeks ago in Michigan, I was so excited to make the trip out to Holland! There was no Tulip Time this year, which was sad. But just being outside, in the sunshine, with this gorgeous scene around me… just made my soul so happy. It’s strange to explain but just filling my life with these scenes gives me so much joy. Especially in such a dark time. These are the moments that make up my life, you know? I don’t know, being cheesy over here. But I loved this afternoon, I’m so glad I went, it healed my heart a little bit, and I’m so grateful for this day.
So yeah, I used a half vacation day, which was wonderful to be able to unplug for the afternoon! I got dressed, curled my hair, put on makeup and headed out to Holland! It was so fun to take the back roads, windows down, Eddie Money blasting, singing along. So fun, lol. This year I visited Veldheer Tulip Gardens (I usually rotate every other year between here and Windmill Island). Parking was super easy, I found a spot right up front. It’s “free” to visit this year, but they’re encouraging donations during this rough time. I donated money right through their website, but you can also buy tickets that they’ll accept for next year’s season. But yeah, it was easy to social distance and the tulips were in full bloom. I went about an hour before they closed, so it wasn’t their “peak” time so not a lot of people honestly!
I thought this cutie color-blocked sweater would be perfect for the fields this year! I ordered it from Zappos and it’s out of stock there, but I found it on Amazon! I love this sweater; perfect for spring. Blush and mustard is one of my favorite color combos, so they nailed it with this sweater. But yeah, sticking to my skinny jeans a lot lately… along with flats, statement earrings and cute sunnies. I got a lot of questions on these earrings on my IG post, and I got them from a local artist shop in Bloomington, but if you head to Etsy, there are tons of similar options! If you like these, here is a similar pair for a good price!
It was a bummer to not be able to fully participate in Holland’s festivities since Tulip Time was cancelled. Normally the tradition is to head to the tulip fields, and go into downtown Holland to see the street dancers and tulip-lined streets and grab dinner at New Holland Brewing or The Curragh. Some of my favorite traditions, but they’ll be there next year! But yeah, having a small shred of this day this year… I’m so grateful. Thankful to Veldheer for providing a safe experience, and to everyone for social distancing and being respectful so we can still enjoy places like this. This is sort of how I plan to live out this summer… doing as much as I can low-key while enjoying the outdoors. Slowing down a lot compared to normal summers. It’s definitely going to be a “new normal”, but who says it can’t be fun during this weird time, right? Well I hope you guys enjoyed these photos and it brought you a little joy if you weren’t able to go this year! There’s always next year! The tulips bloom every year. 🌷
