Bond Falls

There are so many places in the Upper Peninsula that I’ve explored for the first time during this trip… but Bond Falls is a place I’ve been to a few times before, and is definitely worth the repeat visits! I came here years and years ago when I first started my blog, and then visited again in 2015. It’s definitely a popular place! It’s located in southern Ontonagon County… very easy to get to. Google Maps will lead you right there, and there is plenty of parking in the seasonal months. Right now in winter, I parked off on the road (only a few cars) and trekked down the hill, so it was a slightly longer walk than normal, but still very easy to get to. There’s an accessible boardwalk and six viewing locations available!

I’ve been a little anxious to travel around the UP in winter, just because sometimes you are guided along a road… and you’re never sure how it’s going to be maintained. Thankfully this road was totally fine but the further and further I went, I was getting nervous, haha. So if it was any snowier, I’d just be cautious if you don’t have four-wheel drive. (I don’t.) It’s been SO MILD though compared to the crazy winter stories I’ve heard about the UP, so it’s been easy to adventure around. But I’m definitely excited for more snow + ice formations! When I was out here, I realized I forgot my camera remote… so some of these pictures aren’t my favorite and are out-of-focus. My self-timer does not focus without my remote, so yeah, and I didn’t feel like walking back up the hill. But I did fly my drone here and was a little nervous because there were lots of trees, but I got some cool waterfall videos! I’ll have to figure out what to do with all of my footage eventually.

Anyway, be sure to head here if you’re visiting the UP! It’s about 1.75 hours from Marquette, and about 45 minutes from Ontonagon. So this is a great spot to hit if you’re heading out to Porcupine Mountains, which I definitely plan to do this winter. I’ve never seen Lake of the Clouds before in winter, and that’s a goal. Same with Tahquamenon Falls. Lots of the places I’ve visited several times, I want to go back and see in the winter. It’s just a totally different experience! As much as I love the UP and have always loved the UP, I’ve sadly not visited in the winter before. (Shame on me.) So I’m excited to change that this year obviously and be up here through the end of March! Lots more winter adventures to come!
