Miscellaneous Marquette
Phew! Time is flying. I’ve been bad at keeping up on the blog. But here I am! Ready to play catch up. So about a month ago now (!!!), I headed out for a miscellaneous Marquette adventure! We still had quite a bit of snow/ice at the time, but this day was like 55º and SO WARM! So yeah, I decided to just hit up a bunch of spots I haven’t hit yet in town… and I’m discovering there’s still so much I haven’t seen. Woof. I’ve been here for over 6 months and I'm not at all running out of things to do yet. How amazing, right?! Let alone the entire UP. I know I need to get down into the lower peninsula more this summer too but adventure is literally right outside my doorstep in this town. I’m so grateful. Read on for a few things to do in Marquette!
THIRD STREET BAGEL
So my first stop on this day was to get a breakfast sandwich from Third Street Bagel! This place is a go-to for me, for sure. It’s one of the easier fast-casual places in Marquette. You can order right online and pick up in the drive-thru or stop inside and eat in their cafe area. I always go for the breakfast bagel with a “works” bagel, sausage & provolone, a habit I kept from Bagel Beanery in Grand Rapids, haha. This is a locally owned bagel and coffee shop though; serving up everything from bagel sandwiches (breakfast to lunch), cold deli sandwiches to hot sandwiches, salads and soup, cookies, scones, coffee, etc. We don’t have a ton of breakfast options in town, and this is a good one for quick eats!
REANY FALLS
After breakfast, I headed over to Reany Falls! So this one is very very easy to get to. I actually drove right past it when I was exploring Dead River Falls last autumn. So yeah, if you just plug this one right into Google Maps, it’ll take you right there. You’ll drive over this little bridge, waterfall to your right, go ahead and park in the parking lot just ahead and you can walk back toward this waterfall. And if you’re seeing this waterfall, you should also climb the hill over to Dead River Falls as well. Such a good loop in this area to explore! It’s a little off the beaten path, but if you’re interested, you can be to a Taco Bell in 8 minutes! That’s one thing I just crack up over in Marquette. Waterfalls and Taco Bell? Easy afternoon! 😂
CONTRAST COFFEE
After the waterfall, I ventured back into town because I wanted a beverage! Contrast Coffee is also one of my go-tos in town! It’s just down the street from where I live, and they have a few locations in the UP. So I frequent Contrast quite often whether I’m here in Marquette, or in Iron Mountain visiting my friend, Holly. And, they roast their own coffee right in Iron River! But they have a seasonal menu I love… on this day I tried a blended matcha mint latte, which was delicious. Otherwise I love their brown sugar latte, their Chaider in fall, or their honey lavender in spring/summer. But they have baked goods, breakfast sandwiches and I LOVE their crepes.
FREEMAN LANDING
Next stop? I wanted to go and find Hidden Beach since I had never been before! I knew it was a little bit of a walk to get out there, but with the weather being so nice… I was like, let’s goooooo. So I parked at Wetmore Landing and made the trek through Wetmore all along the trail, which was… tricky, to say the least. I didn’t wait long enough for 55º to melt the ice before I trekked out in my white sneakers/no socks. 😂 So I eventually landed at Freeman Landing to snap a few pictures before turning around. Hidden Beach will have to wait until summer. But this little cove was very fun to explore with some fun rock formations + this little beach along the way! I ended up stepping in a sand hole, soaking my entire right foot, lol, and called it a day. I’ll be back.
LAKE SUPERIOR ROADSIDE PARK
After that, I decided to try golden hour at a new place! So I trekked out of town a little bit to get a different view of Lake Superior. I stopped to Holiday along the way for a beverage, made my way to this roadside park, and sat along the dune to watch the sun set! This little roadside park now has weirdly significant meaning, hahaha. The small things about this town that become so important… are just funny/endearing to me. Anyway. It’s a great spot to stop for a picnic, hang at the beach, or golden hour. It’s right along M28 across the street from the Gitche Gumee Campground. I hope you enjoyed my “miscellaneous” adventure in Marquette and it gave you an idea of a few things to add to your list!
