Weekend in Paradise
November in Paradise is truly paradise—quiet, peaceful, and perfect for slowing down. With no crowds or tourist buzz, it’s just you and nature. While dining and entertainment options are limited this time of year, that’s part of the charm—it’s a chance to enjoy home-cooked meals, get outside, and embrace the slower pace. Bugsy and I spent a couple of days soaking it all in at Tahquamenon Lodging, catching a sunrise at Whitefish Point, exploring Tahquamenon Falls, and cozying up with cribbage, wine, The Twilight Zone, and breakfast bake. Read on for a slow November weekend in Paradise! 🌊
WHITEFISH POINT
Our first morning in Paradise, we drove 15 minutes north to Whitefish Point, one of our favorite spots in the Upper Peninsula. November brings quiet vibes and the chance to witness big waves or untouched sand patterns from the gales of November. This area holds deep history, as it’s where the Edmund Fitzgerald sank. We walked to the end of the point, which has changed drastically since a 2023 storm—it’s no longer much of a point! Still, the stunning views and iconic Whitefish Point Lighthouse never disappoint. While we couldn’t tour the tower this time of year, it was worth it to have the place all to ourselves!
Other than exploring Whitefish Point and Tahquamenon Falls, and having dinner at the Wheelhouse Diner & Goat Locker Saloon… we spent a lot of cozy time indoors, which felt so nice and restful and relaxing. I made a breakfast bake (which turned out so good if you’re interested in the recipe), and we enjoyed coffee, orange juice, and a game of Cribbage in the morning. Along with naps, lots more Cribbage, episodes of The Twilight Zone (I am currently hooked!), oatmeal raisin cookies, and endless snacks. Being in the area in the off season sort of forces you to slow down, enjoy, cozy up and relax, and I really need that reminder sometimes!
TAHQUAMENON FALLS
We also took a trip over to the Lower and Upper Tahquamenon Falls. Again, one of our favorite spots in the Upper Peninsula, this place is beautiful in every season. And due to the rain, and the off season, we were the only ones exploring! I was thankful I had an umbrella in my car, but walking in the rain was so peaceful, and the wood soaked platforms and stairs were that much more beautiful. We were excited to see the new bridge at the lower falls to explore the island, where before you had to rent a boat. That was both of our favorite part of the falls! Even though the Upper Falls are where where you see the most photos taken. A beautiful walk and some fun photos, we both brought cameras and got to bask in some creativity, and enjoy the peaceful beauty of the park!
After exploring Tahquamenon until it got dark out (which is 4:30pm, haha!), we decided to drive into Newberry to grab a bite at a local pub called Timber Charlie's Food & Spirit. It was cozy, and good! Fun to people-watch with the locals, and they had classic bar grub that was warm and tasty after an afternoon spent in the rain. Otherwise, that was it! A restful couple of days exploring a beautiful area in the Upper Peninsula… couldn’t ask for more than that! I just bought this new coat from Carhartt, for a sort of in-between coat where it’s not quite… warm fall, but not yet winter, and this one is perfect. It’s rain-repellent and insulated, which was warm & cozy for walking around in the 40-degree wet conditions. I linked all of my outfit details below. And let me know if you have any questions on the area in the comments below!
