Ando Sushi + Bar
So Eric and I checked out Ando Sushi + Bar this past weekend… and it was such a great experience! We’ve been wanting to check out this place for a while, so when they invited us in for a visit, we jumped at the chance! It’s located on the west side of Grand Rapids, in a super fun and upcoming neighborhood. The vibe was awesome, their joyful hour had some serious deals, and the food was delicious. I’m wondering where we’ve been this whole time, haha! But I’m so glad we checked it out, and already can’t wait to go back to try other things!
We ended up sitting at a table near the bar and the hustle and bustle which was fun! We ordered drinks — $3 off wine during happy hour — so of course, I went with a trusty moscato. Eric tried one of their unique mules, and also their sake, which he really liked! For an appetizer, we shared the korean poutine, which was so unique. We went with the beef version, and it had russet potatoes, white cheddar cheese curds, kimchi, scallion, a fried egg, sesame seeds and fried onions. It was a little spicy, and my mouth was slightly on fire, but I could not stop eating it. YUM.
For dinner, I ordered a starter of the firecracker shrimp, which again a little spicy, but so good. I got a side of fried rice too, which was actually a giant meal-sized portion, so I definitely had another meal to take home for the next day! Eric ordered the veggie stone bowl bibmbap — which I tried and was also delicious. We both loved that it came out in a hot sizzling bowl, so the rice on the bottom got super crispy. Super yummy. We also got the cali roll — which Eric liked a lot too! I can’t get behind sushi, I’m trying, but I did try a bite!
And for dessert (since we were absolutely stuffed at this point, and the waiter had to extend our table to fit all of our food 😂), we ended up ordering it to go! We got this brownie with gelato on top and definitely enjoyed that later in the evening. I always love taking dessert to go though — because I always know I’ll have a sweet tooth later! Especially after a slightly spicy meal like that!
But yeah; I’d totally recommend this place if you’re in GR or just visiting! In an attempt to try some new places and breathe some life into the west central area of my Michigan page, this was a great addition. I live here — and I feel like that section is SO weak compared to some other areas in Michigan. Granted I adore the northwest and upper peninsula, but I also adore west Michigan, so I’m excited to explore more of home on the blog this spring/summer. Alright — I’m off! Ando is definitely Eric + Tieka approved, so go check it out!
