Dead River Bridge Overlook
Well, isn’t this the dreamiest location ever. So when my girlfriends came to visit a couple of weekends ago, my friend, Kristin, heard about this place from a friend’s sister. So she was like… let’s go check it out! So we drove out there (only about a ~15 minute drive from downtown Marquette which is nothing around here), and we came upon the most BEAUTIFUL bridge and overlook. I knew I had to come back with my DSLR and take photos! It’s called the CR-510 Bridge or Dead River Bridge Overlook. It’s absolutely stunning. So the old bridge was built in 1921, and the new one was built in 2010. The 1921 one (the one I’m standing on) is now only a footbridge, you can drive down the road and park at a little lot at the end of the street. You used to be able to drive on this before 2010! This bridge is of historical significance because there’s only one other similar structure in Michigan. It’s absolutely gorgeous in autumn because of the trees, but I’d be excited to venture back out here in winter too!
This was a fun night. Honestly, every night is fun here. I love adventuring out and exploring. It’s the biggest reason why I wanted to stay up here, because there’s literally just SO MUCH to see and explore. You can’t conquer it all in a weekend or a week or even a month or even a YEAR, hahaha. I already am making plans to come back up to this area in winter, but I really should also look into staying up in Houghton or Copper Harbor too. And Escanaba. And Sault Ste Marie! I mean, it’s literally endless up here with things to explore, do, and sightsee. I love the upper peninsula with all of my heart. But anyway, after work, I quickly headed out to Ishpeming to do a little shopping at Da Yoopers Tourist Trap (lol), and then drove right out to this bridge to take photos. Thankfully I was able to have a pause in the rain to get these shots, but at the very last few, it started down-pouring and I had to run back to my car! Afterwards, I got takeout from Thai House (which was delicious, I got the orange chicken). Such a good night.
The weather has been so wonderfully mild up here, that I’ve been able to forego a jacket a lot of times! At least in the first few weeks. Now it’s getting slightly chillier, but it’s nothing bad at all. We’re typically about 10º colder than Grand Rapids, but it totally depends. Some mornings or evenings, it’s warmer here in Marquette! But the fall colors definitely peak here earlier, so it’ll be good to have an extended fall this year since GR will be peak by the time I get back home. I paired this H&M sweater with my straight jeans from Madewell — this sweater is old and out of stock, but there is a similar option on their website right now! And I love these Frances Skimmers from Madewell, but they definitely required a little breaking in. Especially since I brought them up here brand new and you do so much walking around here, haha. Well I’m off! Hope you guys had a good October weekend! I ventured out to Porcupine Mountains and Pictured Rocks. I’ll never tire of this life!
