Stroll in Grand Haven
Grand Haven will always hold a special place in my heart! I visited in spring (yes, this post is way overdue), and decided to just do an evening stroll in the town… knowing I just wanted to take in some familiar sights and golden hour at the lighthouse. I lived in Grand Haven in my early twenties and it was such a fun experience being so walkable to downtown and the beach. I definitely miss it, but it’s so wonderful to be able to visit when I’m staying in West Michigan! I walked around downtown for a bit, hit up Pronto Pup for a quick dinner of corndogs, and walked to the Grand Haven South Pier & Lighthouse. Definitely a must visit if you’re looking for a quaint beach town in Michigan… sunsets here are always glorious!
One of my favorite parts of the Grand Haven pier and lighthouse… is the catwalk! It’s only one of four lighthouses in Michigan that have this feature. The others include St. Joseph, South Haven and Manistee. (All on Lake Michigan!) Catwalks helped lighthouse keepers get to the lighthouse in high waves or winter months. It would lead them to enter the tower through a second-level entrance door. Neat, right?! Plus it’s just so photogenic. The Grand Haven lighthouse is one of the most photographed lighthouses in the Midwest! They juuuuust redid the concrete and pier, and it’s a beautiful walk out to the end and back.
I was going to check out a brewery or a restaurant, but ended up just grabbing corndogs at Pronto Pup, which is a very small food stand right by Snug Harbor. They only serve up corndogs and pop! Usually there’s a huge long line in the summer, but I must have hit it at the right time. And they open up for a day or two in the winter to serve up food as well!
Well that finally wraps my West Michigan content… for now! I’ll try and hit more in the area when I’m back in town, but sometimes my weeks there are so jam-packed. Living in Marquette, I always get back to the area at least 1x a month to visit friends and family… so that’s usually the focus vs. trying to scramble to get blog content, but I know I need to make that more of a priority! There are so many places I haven’t yet explored in the area! Otherwise, not much is new. Summer is trucking along… lots of fun plans coming up! A trip to Grand Rapids, friends are visiting me in MQT, etc. Summer is going to pass by in the blink of an eye! I’ll be back with a weekend in The Soo + hopefully more MQT shenanigans before summer is over! Be sure to follow over on Instagram. I update my stories every day!
